Wednesday Morning Mass (10AM, February 25th) will go ahead.

Our usual protocol will stay in place, namely, to cancel Mass when the schools are closed due to stormy weather, today we will go ahead with 10am Mass, adoration, and confessions. The school closure is on account of clean-up and student transportation concerns and not due to stormy weather.

I understand that some side streets are still in poor condition, so please use your own discretion about whether you can come or not.

Events and Announcements

Beginning of Lent

Dear Parishioners, Lent begins this year on Wednesday, Feb. 18th.  This is a special time of preparation for adults being baptized into the Church and for all the baptized, through penance and prayer, to renew our baptismal promises at Easter.

Some things you will note during the Mass in Lent is that the altar is typically not adorned with flowers, except for Laetare Sunday, Solemnities, and special feasts; the Alleluia is not sung; and the Gloria is omitted except for certain days.

Journey Through Lent Video Series

The 2026 Journey through Lent video series, which includes reflections on the readings for Ash Wednesday and each Sunday in Lent including Palm Sunday, is available.  It is a joint project between three CCCB offices (the Office national de liturgie, the National Liturgy Office, and the Office for Evangelization and Catechesis).

This year’s spiritual reflections are delivered by

the Most Reverend Daniel Miehm, Bishop of Peterborough (in English), and

the Most Rev. Juan Carlos Londoño., Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec (in French).

The videos are available here:

USHERS NEEDED

The parish is in need of more Ushers (Hospitality) for Saturday and Sunday Masses. Ushers are responsible for such things as welcoming parishioners, distribute bulletins, assist with seating when required, etc.. Those interested are asked to contact Coordinator Jim Woodrow – 709-773-0010 email jimlwoodrow@hotmail.com  or call the parish office.  A workshop will be held in the near future to review responsibilities.  Thank you.

ALPHA PROGRAM OF FAITH FORMATION

St. Edward’s Parish is exploring the possibility of offering the

Alpha Program of Faith Formation.
Website: alphacanada.org/catholic-context/

A popular 11 week series of interactive sessions exploring the basics of Christian faith in a relaxed, open environment, it is perfect for anyone curious about life, God, and Jesus, regardless of their background or beliefs. It would also be open to non-parishioners.

For one evening a week participants gather for a meal, a video, small group discussions, and some social time in a safe space. The Alpha Program has proven its effectiveness over the last 50 years. It does, however, require a significant number of leaders, who will be trained in how to offer the Program. We would like to gauge your interest in involvement either as a leader, or participant. If you would like to be involved please contact the office at stedwardsparish@rcsj.org, phone (709) 834-9481, or email – Tony Tilley - tonytilley865@gmail.com.

 PRE-AUTHORIZED GIVING (PAG)

Pre-authorized Giving assists parishioners in making their regular parish offerings (this does not include special collections).  Offerings will be withdrawn from your bank account on the 15th & 30th of the month (or next business day).  This can simplify your giving and ensure that support of your parish continues when you are away, ensuring regular and dependable contributions.

To sign up for PAG to St. Edward’s Parish, please complete the form available at the entrance of the church, place it in a sealed envelope with a void cheque, and drop into the collection or bring to the Parish Office.  Personal information will be kept confidential and secure. For inquiries, please contact Jennifer at the Parish Office.
