SACRAMENTS

The visible reality of the Sacraments is their form, their expression, and how they are administered and received. The invisible reality is God's grace as he redeems us through the death and Resurrection of his Son.

The Seven Sacraments instituted by the Lord are: the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist), the Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick), and the Sacraments at the Service of Communion (Marriage and Holy Orders).

Through the Sacraments, God shares his holiness with us so that we, in turn, can share it with the world.

Baptism

The blessing of Baptism opens the soul to God's presence fill the spiritual vacuum which we call original sin with His life and love

Confirmation

Confirmation

At Confirmation a special grace deepens and strengthens our faith, so that it will be strong enough not only for our own needs but for the needs of others.  We become aware of our responsibility for the welfare of Christ in the World.

Reconciliation, First Confession

Reconciliation

In Reconciliation, the priest, as the agent of God, forgives sins committed after Baptism, when a penitent sincerely confesses them, and is willing to make redress.

By his death, Jesus Christ redeemed us from sin and especially from the eternal death that is sin's due.  God's mercy is infinite and unwearying.

Sacraments
Eucharist

Eucharist

The Lord's Supper, also known as Holy Communion, is our sharing with Jesus in the last meal with his disciples

It is His gift to us, as His Body and Blood nurture our Faith and our Spirit.

Come and see. A vocation discernment group, led by Fr. James Fleming, meets regularly on the last Sunday of every month at the Basilica.
Single Catholic men, 18 years and older, who are open to considering a call to the priesthood are invited to attend. The group meets at 6:30pm to pray, share a meal, and discuss a topic related to discerning a call to the priesthood.

Marriage

Marriage

Marriage is in the lifelong espousal of one man and one woman.  It is the fusion of minds and hearts as well as bodies into a new and richer unity, that this purpose of God is achieved.

In the words of Jesus:

"What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder"

(Matthew 19:7).

Anointing of the Sick

"Is any one among you sick? Let him bring in the presbyters [priests] of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him."
